I am a Pennsylvania born girl living in North Carolina and loving all things Southern. I am so close to using y'all on a daily basis. I have been planning events for 10 years and fell head over heels in love with Weddings 5 years ago. I love all things fashion, colorful, design, and of course weddings!

Come and See Us at The Carolina Inn Bridal Show!

January 21

What are you doing on Sunday? If you are newly engaged, or have a friend or family member who is, you should come to The Carolina Inn Bridal Showcase. This showcase features 75 premiere vendors who will be able to answer any of your questions that can help with all aspects of your wedding planning.

Stop by and chat with photographers and view samples of their work, check out stationary for wedding invites, sample wedding cakes, view wedding decor and much more under one roof. Another great thing to check out is the runway show. At 1:30PM and 3:30PM there will be a runway show featuring the latest trends in bridal fashion including gowns, shoes and accessories.

Our table will be set up in the Chancellor’s Ballroom. Be sure to stop by, we would love to chat and answer any questions you might have about the planning process or about getting married in the city. See photos of past weddings we have done and find out what services we offer. Best of all, we have a great gift for all brides to be!

Tickets are $15 per person, and they are available to purchase here. We were able to nab some extra tickets to give away to a few lucky people who would like to attend. If you would like to have your name in the running for free tickets, simply share this article by clicking “Share” on the Facebook post that brought you here. The lucky winners will receive and inbox message saying that they have won 2 tickets!

In preparation for the showcase, you may want to have some specific things you are looking for, or specific questions for certain vendors. One of the questions we get most often is, “what should I do after I get engaged?” Besides attending this Bridal Showcase, here are some other things to focus on after getting engaged.

Get a Wedding Planner. You know yourself better than anyone. Are you organized and able to stay on top of things? Will you be able to balance work and planning? If you know exactly what you want and can handle all the planning, consider a day-of coordinator to take the reins and execute the details on the day of your wedding.

Nail down your personal style. This is the fun part! Grab bridal magazines, spend hours on Pinterest and get inspired. Do you see your wedding as traditional, eclectic, modern or vintage? Consider the smaller details such as the cake or centerpieces first and observe what sort of style you are drawn towards to get an idea of what this might be.

Register. Before the engagement party and bridal shower, go out with your fiancé and register at a few stores. That way people will know exactly what to buy you and can even buy your wedding gifts in advance when they are picking up your engagement/ bridal shower gifts.

Set a BudgetThis will most likely change, especially because you may underestimate some wedding costs. You will have to sit down with each set of parents and figure out exactly what everyone is contributing and think of a reasonable number to get what you want within reason and without breaking the bank. If you decide to hire a wedding planner then they will help you with this. If not, be very meticulous of recording ALL expenses and checking to make sure you are staying on track.

Book the venue. Once you have set the number of guest and have an idea of your budget, start visiting venues. Go to a variety of places and have a list of questions to ask at each one. Try to picture your big day there and find what you feel is a good fit.

Book the Photographer. One of the most important parts of the day is getting amazing photos to remember it by. Start doing research into different photographers and set up meetings. Are you looking for candid shots, traditional shots, artsy shots? Photographers are booked a year or more in advanced, so make sure you don’t wait too long to start looking and booking!

Make sure to put this date in your calendar, we would love to see you there!

Carolina Inn Wedding: Chapel Hill Wedding Planner

October 31

Becca-Jane and Todd were married on June 23rd at the Chapel of the Cross with a reception at the Carolina Inn afterwards. Todd is a Major in the Marines who was teaching at The Citadel in Charleston, while Becca was living in Washington, DC.  If you are around this couple for one minute you can see how totally in love they are for each other! Although the bride and groom were apart for the planning, everything came together in an amazing way.

The morning of the wedding the bridal party ran a 5k. The Bride and Groom left at separate times of course!

Thank you to all of the great vendors that helped me bring this day together!

I was so happy with how their escort card table turned out! Tre Bella was able to take my idea that was a combination of a few photos I had seen and make it even better!

Todd loves ice cream, so Becca Jane surprised him with an ice cream bar. It was a huge hit! I love his reaction!

This was such a fun wedding to be a part of!  All of the decorative elements had a classic style that came together beautifully. Being around the bride and groom you can sense how in love they are, and we are so happy that we could help bring this special day together for them. So glad you are together now!!

Congrats to the newlyweds!

Emily from Southern Weddings Magazine Surprise Shower!!

August 16

I was so thrilled when I was asked to hep plan this surprise bridal shower for the Southern Weddings Creative Director, Emily Ayer. What a fun event to plan! Nicole with SW gave me some insight into what Emily loved, miniqature things included! Heidi Werner, Director of Catering of The Carolina Inn created this beyond delicious menu, Cyn Kain was there to capture all of these gorgeous images, and Amber of Amber Housley created these adorable mini invitations! I had so much fun choosing the linens and goodies for this shower!

Emily was totally surprised!

Molly and Jonathan were married on a gorgeous April day in an equally gorgeous Carolina Inn Wedding! When I first met Molly I knew this was one cool lady! Jonathan was deployed and she had moved here recentley. When I saw the picture of her gown I just gasped! It was so gorgeous and the veil was just as breathtaking! What a fun day!

How great is this grandfather shot?

To say this was a fun group is an understatement!

Love the shoes!

Molly’s parents never had an official first dance, so she surprised them with one at her wedding. What great role models!!

What Bride's are saying! Chapel Hill Wedding Planner

May 17

We love what we do! It is so much work but getting reviews like this is so rewarding:

I can not even begin to say how much I enjoyed working with Erin!!! She is professional, reliable, and AMAZING at what she does. The last thing a bride wants is an uptight high strung wedding planner and that is NOT what you get with Erin. She makes it a point to keep things running smoothly!! And if something goes wrong during the planning process or day of you will not know about it because Erin will be right there fixing anything that could possibly cause her bride stress. I would highly recommend Erin and Erin McLean Events for anyone who is looking for an AMAZINGLY AWESOME planner!!!!

Love Molly!!  Thank you for making my work so worthwhile!

xoxo,

PS. Did you see her veil and gown? So excited to see her pictures.

Wedding Gown Wednesday!

February 1

So, I am obsessed with this gown since I saw it this weekend at the Carolina Inn Bridal Show. I was stunned how this just floated down the runway!

In Vera’s words:

If there is any one dress in my Spring 2012 collection that epitomizes the pageantry of the Paris Opera, it’s Hayley. The centerpiece of this dress, for me, is the absolutely stunning, theatrical cascade of organza petals in the skirt, all cut from the most delicate tissue organza. They just float on the dress like a spilling bouquet. I did the petals in two tones: first, in a soft sand color, and then a nude, so it just gives you a complex tonality that’s a little more special.

For even more movement and excitement in the skirt, I’ve also used pleated honeycomb tulle—it gives you a whole other texture and volume underneath that petal effect. You almost picture Hayley swirling across the stage in a Degas painting.

The dropped-waist bodice features softly draped illusion organza over a corset. That transparency effect—that play between “reveal” and “conceal”—is one of my favorite techniques.

I’ve used all the textures in this dress, particularly in the petals, to give Hayley a rich, luxurious look, instead of going with traditional bling. For me, it’s about using fabric manipulations to make things look new and modern. And it’s also all about the motion in the whole gown, not the static detail. I love being able to achieve slouch and ease in a gown, and I always do this very purposefully, with layer upon layer of organic elements, as you see in Hayley. Getting that stunning combination of seemingly effortless beauty that’s so perfect and strategic: that’s what brings a dress together for me.

I like my bridal collections to be filled with unexpected touches—everything is very deliberately mixed up, assembled together, and then taken apart again, until I’ve found that perfect balance between architecture and effortlessness.
