New York Bridal Fashion Week 2015

Last week the Erin McLean Events Team jetted off to New York City for Bridal Fashion Week 2015!  In a whirlwind of fantastic events, sites, and experiences, we got to get a taste of all things Bridal in store for 2016.

IMG_9970

First on the agenda – swooning over the lovely feminine and flowing gowns coming from the runway in the spring. Our favorite go-to designers and some newer artists flooded the runways with soft silhouettes, stunning painted designs, feminine hues, and floral accents. Also on trend – modest midriffs and cut-outs. We are in love!

Fashion Week 159

Next on the agenda – scoping out the New York Flower District. We couldn’t make a trip to the city without perusing through what we consider to be floral heaven. Even though we only caught the tail-end of the day’s market, the sidewalks and store fronts were teeming with scents of dahlias, fresh cut roses, and all the rest of our favorite blooms (which is of course all of them). The city treated us to a perfect warm sunshine filled Fall day for our self-guided tour which we topped off with a visit to Baked By Melissa for a mini cupcake treat!

Fashion Week 1510

Sunday was capped off with a little soiree hosted by our favorite ladies at Be Inspired PR. The EME team was so excited to be a part of the annual Tassels and Tastemakers networking celebration at Lugo Cucina in Manhattan. We were treated  to music from The Matchmaker Band (so good!), a showcase of bling from Simon G, and of course tasty sweets from Magnolia Bakery!

Fashion Week 1511

On Monday, we headed Downtown to one of our favorite spots — Kleinfield’s Bridal for the Pnina Tornai show — also spotted, Kleinfield’s own Randy Fenoli, Danielle + Kevin Jonas, and the NFL’s Devon Still and his Fiance, Asha Joyce. The team all agreed that the show favorite was a gorgeous silk crop-top gown accented with a feminine neckline and perfect bow detail.

Fashion Week 1513

Fashion Week 1514

A trip to #NYBFW wouldn’t have been complete without the crown jewels of celebrations – we were honored to attend Martha Stewart Weddings Market Party AND The Knot Gala at New York’s Public Library. Both were alive with celebration and industry pros, showcases of top-notch vendors, and of course plenty of sparkle and champagne! We had the pleasure of chatting with Nine Cakes who’s designs were front and center at The Knot as well as so many other industry friends.

Fashion Week 1515

Our team met for a #NYBFW recap session at a little Parisian brunch spot in the West Village,  Buvette, on Tuesday morning before heading back to Raleigh. We can’t wait to see all the trends, new ideas, and excitement come to life with our 2016 clients. We are already counting down to next year!

Thank you so much for reading our Bridal Fashion Series! We really enjoyed putting these together and we hope that they were helpful and provided inspiration for your own wedding. Although this is the last post in the series, keep your eye out for our “Best of” our Bridal Fashion Series post. We will pull some of our favorite photos from every week including the bride, groom, groomsmen, bridesmaids, mother-of-the-bride and flower girls and ring bearers.

Bridal Fashion: Mother-of-the-Bride | By Erin McLean Events

We have loved sharing our Bridal Fashion Series with everyone. A highly requested part of the bridal fashion series was a mother-of-the-bride post. At a wedding there is a lot of emphasis on bridesmaids and flower girls and groomsmen, but with the mother-of-the-bride there is often uncertainty as to what to wear. We think that to find the perfect outfit for your daughter’s wedding, you should consider the following:

– Is the event formal? Are the men wearing tuxes? Or, is it more laid back with button ups and ties? Thinking about this will help decide how formal your outfit should be.

– What season is it? If it is an outdoor wedding in the summer, you may not want to wear a floor-length dress. If it is winter, you may want a matching cover up for your outfit.

– Keep accessories in mind. Do you have a beautiful pearl necklace that you want to wear? Earrings? How about shoes? These are good things to keep in mind when looking for a dress. You want to make sure that the dress works with the items and accessories that you have already decided to wear.

– Do you prefer a dress, a skirt and shirt or a pantsuit? Once you decide what you prefer of these options, it will help you narrow down where you should shop.

– What are the wedding colors? It’s not that you have to match, but if everyone is wearing black and the wedding colors are brown, you may not want to wear a yellow outfit.

– Comfort first! The day and night are long, you want to make sure that you wear something that is comfortable for sitting, standing and dancing. You don’t want to spend the day pulling at your skirt or your dress.

We have added a variety of photos to this post to help you get ideas and inspiration for colors, necklines, embellishments, hem lengths and sleeve options in mother-of-the-bride outfits. Note what sort of things you really like and really dislike. This will make it easier when you shop if you say, “I dislike spaghetti straps and anything with color, and I prefer something below the knee.” From there it is easy to deduce that you would prefer a long, black dress with sleeves

Bridal Fashion: The Bridesmaids | By Erin McLean Events

We are excited to share the next post in our Bridal Fashion series. We decided to do a whole post just on Bridesmaids instead of combining it with the Groomsmen so that we could get more photos, and we really got more photos! We hope that you can get some good ideas about color combos, textures and accessories from this collection.

There are a variety of trends with bridesmaid dresses. Many brides choose to have their bridesmaids in one single color dress. This is a classic look that will always look good in photos. A most recent trend is having bridesmaids all wear different shades in the same color family – like aquas, turquoises and light blues.

Sometimes the bridesmaid’s dresses can be inspired by the florals or the decor and the color will be picked to compliment those palettes. We also love the skirt/shirt trend for bridesmaids instead of just dresses. It leaves a lot of room to match interesting patterns, textures and colors.

We are so excited about this post and we hope that you find it helpful.

Don’t forget to PIN what you love for later!

OneFabDay did an awesome post on bridesmaid outfits that were skirt/shirt combos. The next series of photos are from their post. These are some great ideas. Sometimes dresses can be extremely hard to find one that fits everyone, that has a color or pattern that you want – that is why skirts and shirts can be a great solution!

Make it pretty!

Bridal Fashion: The Groomsmen | By Erin McLean Events

Happy Monday everyone! We are excited to share the next instalment in our bridal fashion series. Originally this was going to combine both groomsmen and bridesmaids fashion, but we figured that we will do them separately so that we can pack as many photos in as possible.

Keep in mind that no matter the style, theme or formality of your wedding, it is important to have some cohesion so that people can discern the bridal party from the guests. This will also look better in photos. Most of the time the groomsmen will match the bridesmaids which will tie into the florals or color scheme of the wedding.

Before you choose the colors, you can also discuss how formal you want the groomsmen to be and what you would like them to wear. Tux, khakis, ties, bowties, vest, suspenders? Suspenders are making a huge comeback and we love it!

Like what you see? Don”t forget to PIN it for later!

This groom and his groomsmen have the same suits and boutonnieres. The groom has the same color tie, but with a design on it and brown shoes instead of black. This is a classic look that is cohesive and formal.

groom

StyleMePretty

This is another classic look with everyone in the same colored suits. The groomsmen share the same bow ties and boutonnieres, whereas the groom has a different color bow tie, boutonniere and shoe color to make him stand out.
groom2

StyleMePretty

This is a more laid-back look where it is more difficult to discern who, if everybody, is in the bridal party. There is a mix of ties and bow ties, one person is wearing suspenders and one person is wearing a vest. We love the khaki pants with the navy ties and bow ties that match the groom”s suit, but we all agree that it is difficult to say whether they are all groomsmen.

groom3

WeddingChicks

We said suspenders are back! We love these groomsmen with their charcoal pants, light blue shirts and black and yellow suspenders. To tie in the yellow, all of the groomsmen have yellow boutonnieres. The groom looks great in a skinny tie, which matches the groomsmen”s pants, and light grey suit.

groom4

WeddingChicks

This is another formal bridal party that uses a different color suit for the groomsmen. They also have pink bow ties that match the bridesmaid outfits and all of the guys, including the groom, have white boutonnieres.

groom5

WeddingChicks

Bring on the suspenders and the funky bow ties! This rad group of groomsmen all have grey pants, white shirts, black suspenders and yellow boutonnieres. Then they all have different colors and prints for their bow ties. This is definitely a unique and more informal look, but we love it!

groom6

WeddingChicks

This group of groomsmen and a reminder not to forget the small, fun things that can make your groomsmen unique. All of the groomsmen are wearing the same pants, shirts, suspenders, bow ties and boutonnieres – but they are all wearing different striped socks. The groom is in the same color, but with a jacket, a tie and a different color boutonniere. We think this is an awesome look!

groom

LoveAndLavender

This is back to a more formal look with black suits. We think that having bridesmaids and groomsmen in black looks so classic and fashionable. The groom is wearing a different color tie and a pocket square to make Vuonna 2012 avattu Euroslots on tuore eurooppalainen netti casino . him stand out.

groom3

LoveAndLavender

This is an example of a really fun, laid back bunch of groomsmen. The dark grey pants with the patterned shirts and ties with beige suspenders looks very cool and put together. Taking this chance can also be a disaster, be sure that if you are going for a mismatched look that there is still some cohesion and that someone helps to ensure that it is stylishly mismatched, not a fashion faux pas!

groom4

GreenWeddingShoes

This is another mismatched bunch of groomsmen. As you will see in next week”s post, it is a trend for bridesmaids to wear different color dresses, or have the same color, but different shades. This can look very good. Just be sure that if you do this, that somehow the groomsmen and bridesmaids still look good together. We really like the different shades of suits in this bridal party with the cohesive element being the bow tie. The groom has a different boutonniere to help distinguish him.

groom5

GreenWeddingShoes

Here is another formal group of groomsmen, all in the same color suit. They all have the same colored tie and boutonniere. The groom has a matching bow tie and it looks like he may be wearing a grey vest under his jacket. This is a very clean look with a pop of fun and color with the ties.

groom6

TheEveryLastDetail

Here is another example of having your groomsmen in different shades or colors. Navy, charcoal and light grey look good together as the bow tie features those colors and ties everything together. These groomsmen also wore fun socks, which makes a great picture for the wedding album!

groom

Imgur

This is a great looking style for the groomsmen and the groom. We love the dark suits with the groom in a light suit and a dark tie. This look is classic and cool and looks great in photos!

groom3

LoveMyDress

Here is another example of mismatched patterns. Keeping the pants the same and the color scheme for shirts and accessories the same helps to keep everything looking more cohesive.

groom4

TheEveryLastDetail

Here is a great look that is more casual but still looks classic. Grey pants and white button ups for the groomsmen will look great in pictures, plus it is easy to have any accents if you choose accessories like suspenders or colored boutonnieres. Leaving it simple also looks really good, which is what they have done here. The groom has a grey vest and tie on which looks handsome and more formal.

work!

RuffledBlog

We love how it has become more common for people to stray from the all black look. As much as we love all black, we think that when you are working with certain colors, in this example orangey, salmon-colored ties, the beige suit looks really good paired with that color tie. Don”t be afraid to match your colors with something other than black, we think this look is so dashing!

groom2

Bride2Be

Look at those grey suits! In this photo it is hard to tell what is different about the groom to make him stand out, but we can tell that his groomsmen are wearing the same suits, with bow ties and the same boutonniere. We think the pop of yellow looks really great in contrast to the navy and grey.

ProjectWedding

Here are some more ideas if you like the mismatched look. From this photo it seems that the groom has the blue shirt with the large, purple boutonniere and the groomsmen have a taupe shirt with different grey jackets. The boutonnieres are different for all of the groomsmen, but the unifying feature is the totally cool chevron print peeking out of all of their pockets.

GlendaLoughManor

This bridal party is an example of everyone matching. The dresses match the vests, which match the ties and the boutonnieres  We like that a biege suit was chosen instead of black. It really tones down the yellow. This is a great look for a beach wedding. This wil give you a good idea if you like the matched look more or less than a mismatched look.

groom5

HeartLoveWeddings

Here is an example of another matching bridal party. They are less matchy than the last one, but if you still think you like the matching look, this one is great. The pink ties work really well with the great suits and is a subtle element that ties in with the bridesmaid dresses. We think these are beautiful colors and that it looks really good.

groom

RuffledBlog

Like a preppier look? We love these salmon-colored pants with the navy jackets. We also love how the bride”s father wore the same outfit. The colors look really great with the bride”s bouquet and work well, although this may not be everyone”s cup of tea.
