Wedding of the Year 2011!

December 30

Couldn’t agree more! I am so happy to have been their wedding planner!

2011 was filled with memorable weddings – including the Royal Wedding.

But the Rachelle Friedman/Chris Chapman wedding takes the prize for wedding of the year in my book.

Rachelle Friedman, a twenty-five year old former dance and aerobics instructor, suffered a tragic injury last year when one of her bridesmaids pushed her into the shallow end of a swimming pool at her bachelorette party. As a result of her accident, Rachelle broke her C6 spinal vertebra and is now a quadriplegic…

Love them!

DIY Friday- Chalkboard Wine Glasses!

December 30

Happy DIY Friday! This week we thought it would be fun to do a quick and easy DIY that would be perfect for a New Year’s Eve Party! Instead of using wine charms, how fun would it be to use a chalk and write names directly on the glasses? We used wine glasses, but you could do this with champagne glasses.

These are so easy and inexpensive to make. All you need are some wine glasses (we got ours at the dollar store!), some chalkboard paint, an old tupperware container, painter’s tape, and wax paper. You could substitute towels or foil for the wax paper.

Pour some paint in the tupperware and put a ring of painter’s tape on the bottom of the stem.

Dip the stem in the paint and swirl it around, allowing the excess paint to drip off.

Hang them over the side and let them dry. To keep them evenly coated and to prevent drip marks, we rotated ours a few times.

We ended up turning them around in a longer tupperware, but it definitely isn’t necessary.

We let it dry over night to be safe, but they were dry after a few hours.

You could use white chalk or color coordinate to match your event decor. These would super fun for bridesmaids or bachelorette parties!

Happy New Year!

DIY Friday! Christmas Tree Skirt!

December 16

Happy DIY Friday!! It is a new weekly feature on our blog! Every week we will be posting DIY projects for your wedding, home, entertaining, and this time of year holiday goodness!

Christmas is my favorite time of year! This year I wanted to make skirt for my fat little tree that I have in my house!

I made the skirt using a pattern from Joann’s Fabric (simplicity 4784). It is a paneled pattern for a 60″ round skirt. You can always shorten or lengthen the bottom, just adjust the amount of fabric. I wanted it to be reversible, so I chose a fun pattern for the bottom.

Supply List:

Fabric A (blue snowflake)- 1 5/8 yards (45″wide)

Fabric B (solid blue)- 1 5/8 yards (45″ wide)

Fabric for Bottom (green stripes)- 3 1/8 yards.

Scissors, Pins, Matching thread, Sewing Machine, Iron

*How great is this sewing machine? It belonged to my amazing Grandma Woods and it get the job done!

Cut the pattern out (or trace on tracing paper) and pin it to the fabric. Cut 4 panels of Fabric A and 4 of Fabric B. You can use one fabric for the top, just cut 8.

For the bottom you are going to need to cut 2 on the fold.

Pin one Fabric A panel to one Fabric B panel on one side (right sides). Then sew them together on one edge.

It should like this when you open it up. Pretty!

Keep going until you have all 8 panels together. Don’t sew the last two together or you won’t be able to get it around the tree.

Next pin the right sides together of the bottom and sew along ONE side of the flat edge.

Iron the seams and pin the top to the bottom (right sides together). Sew around the entire skirt on the wrong side, except one flat panel. You want to keep one opening so you can turn it right side out.

Remember- leave one flat side side open! Or you’ll end up ripping out seams like me.

When all else fails…

Turn it right side out and sew the last seam shut.

Put it under the tree!

I hope Santa is good to you this year!!

Carolina Inn Wedding – Chapel Hill Wedding Planner

December 7

Trisha and Adam were married in a perfectly elegant, southern Carolina Inn Wedding! I loved planning with Trisha to bring together the seersucker fabric, her gorgeous Swiss Dot gown, and baby’s breath in a truly southern way!

Fleurtations Weddings and Events did a  phenomenal job using feminine pinks, blues, pink Gerbera Daisies (Trisha’s favorite) and the babies breath!

We incorporated the blue hydrangeas in the flowers because that was Adam’s favorite color and it worked with the seersucker accents perfectly!

My favorite moment, showing the bride the design and decor! Loved Trisha’s reaction to seeing the ballroom!!

Ashley Cakes did a fantastic job with the cake and the seersucker cakestand!

As favor’s the couple gave out Krispy Kreme’s!

1705 Prime Wedding – Raleigh Wedding Planner

December 5

Yellow, Pinks, and Creams were so classic in this 1705 Prime Wedding of David and Laura. I have never laughed so hard then when I had meetings with this couple. As a Wedding Planner it is such a joy to work with a couple that truly compliments each other in the best way possible.

Thank you to Gallant Fox Photography for these gorgeous images!

Tre Bella did such a stunning job on the flowers!

I created this family tree for the couple. We hung pictures of their families past weddings. It is such a great way to show great photos! How gorgeous is the mercury glass!

Yeah!! Love that Laura looking at the reception was captured! I love this moment!

We mixed three linens in this design, which adds such great texture and interest to the space!
